Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman is the head (“Rosh ha-Merkaz”) of Hechal Shlomo: The Center of Jewish Heritage in Jerusalem. He is also a Lecturer of Rabbinic Literature and a member of the Executive Leadership Council at Herzog College. The former Rabbi of The Jewish Center in Manhattan and Instructor of Talmud at Yeshiva University, Rabbi Berman received his BA in Philosophy, MA in Jewish Philosophy and Rabbinic Ordination from Yeshiva University, and earned his Phd. in Jewish Thought at Hebrew University.
Ruth Calderon earned her MA and Ph.D. in Talmud from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1989, she established the first Israeli secular, pluralistic,co-educational, and egalitarian Beth Midrash. In 1996 she founded ALMA, which seeks to acquaint secular Israelis with Hebrew culture. In 2012 she joined the new Yesh Atid party and was made a Knesset member, a position she held until 2015. She lives in Tel Aviv with her three children.
This event is co-hosted by Tov B’Yachad which strengthens the connection between the Orthodox community and the UJA-Federation of New York.
