UWS Gemach

Committee Chairs: Shera Goldman and Paula Vogel

The UWS Gemach is a repository for new and gently used children's clothes for those in need - both within our community and beyond it. After donations are made, volunteers sort through the clothes, organize the Gemach shop, coordinate private appointments and act as personal shoppers for those who come for clothes.

The Gemach first opened its doors in the Winter of 2013 and since then has been a wonderful resource for those in need. It is housed on the 6th floor of The Jewish Center and the space has been transformed into an organized and beautiful store. On average, six families come to shop at the Gemach per month—leaving with clothes for job interviews, shul, family simchahs and causal clothes. This extraordinary project is the result of a dedicated group of volunteers who sort through clothing, fold and organize the space and greet shoppers.

How to Get Involved:
We welcome you to get involved! Any amount of time that you can dedicate to this project is greatly appreciated. You can
volunteer your time to sort through clothes or greet shoppers and we are happy to work around your schedule. We accept clothing donations but please refer to the Gemach webpage to see when we are accepting clothing donations. You may also financially support the Gemach Fund by sending in a check or donating online and earmarking the donation toward the UWS Gemach.
